How can i distinguish between the pressure balancing cartridge & thermostatic cartridge
Besides the geometric differences (the thermostatic is much larger in size both diametrically as well as laterally), the thermostatic cartridge has a TYPE T marking on the top of the bonnet to facilitate inspection even with the finished wall in place.

Can customers order the valve body without the cartridge already installed?
Yes, the new VB8 SKUs are valve-only castings with a test plug included. This allows the customers to rough-in the casting and determine the cartridge and trim type at a later date.

Does the thermostatic cartridge support a back-to-back installation?
Yes, if the inlet lines were switched during the rough-in, simply flip the cartridge 180 degrees when inserting it into the valve body.

Is it necessary to plumb the outlet through the tub port and plug the shower port on the valve body?
No, it is not necessary to plumb the shower head & body sprays through the tub port of the valve body. However, it is recommended in order to achieve the maximum flow attainable and provide the finest shower experience for the user.

What type of test plug is provided with the VB8 casting skus?
A full test plug is provided with the VB8 casting which allows plumbers to quickly test the lines for leaks. A spare part (974-073) has been setup to allow plumbers to test each line (Hot and Cold) individually, which can be ordered as needed.

How many outlets (showerheads, body sprays, etc) can the TX8 thermostatic cartridge support?
The new TX8 cartridge delivers 7gpm @ 60psi and can support a showerhead and up to 2 body sprays. For more shower outlets, additional valves will be required upon rough-in.

How should I plumb body sprays to ensure proper pressure balancing?
A pressure balancing loop must always be used with the body sprays to allow for a balanced and equal supply of water to each spray head.

How should I connect body sprays to the water supply?
Thread the body sprays onto ½” male NPT pipe, which is plumbed in a loop system.

Is a diverter valve required for setting up a system with 2 bodysprays and 1 showerhead?
No, the body sprays (015-BDO*) feature integrated ceramic disc valves with volume control and eliminates the need for a separate diverter valve.

How can the same product that delivers 7gpm @ 60 psi also be considered a green product?
The thermostatic valve is regulated by fluctuations in temperature, not pressure. Thus, the thermostatic cartridge can deliver outstanding performance at lower than normal (<2.0gpm) pressure and flow rates.

Do I need to remove the thermostatic cartridge when roughing in the 3/4” valve?
No, the rough-in valve ships with a plug for testing, but the actual cartridge ships with the trim components so no cartridge removal is necessary during rough-in

If I want to use 3/4” thermostatic valve, do I always need to use volume control?
Yes – our 3/4” thermostatic valve is temperature only so you always need to use 1 volume control valve to control flow rate and on/off function

How many functions/operations can the 3 port diverter run?
Total is 6 positions available – 3 one function and 3 two function combination settings

Do I need to use a volume control valve with a 3 port diverter/thermostatic valve combination?
Yes. In addition to your thermostatic and diverter valves, you will need 1 volume control valve

Should I cap the tub or the shower port in a shower-system configuration?
Always cap the tub spout when using the 3/4” valve in a vertical spa configuration

We recommend using 3/4” tubing/pipe between thermostatic and flow valves, with 1/2” everywhere else – However, if 3/4” is available to plumb entire system, it is preferred, but 1/2” will not diminish performance

Shower Power
The engine of any shower is the valve in the wall. Most standard showers use 1/2" pressure–balanced shower valves. But if you’re creating a custom Pfister shower experience, you’ll need our industry-leading thermostatic valves. These valves get their name from the fact that they control the temperature of the water, not just the ratio of hot water to cold. They come in two sizes, a 1/2" and 3/4" that can be easily retrofitted into current systems. Which size value–and how many–you'll need depends on the experience you want to create.
